HISTORY

FOUNDED IN 1892

Our church is more than 130 years old and is located in the quaint historic district of Downtown Hilo on the Eastside of the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. The church was originally dedicated as the Portuguese Evangelical Church with 101 members in December 1892.  As of 2025, we still have members in our church whose ancestors were part of the congregation who helped to build the church in 1892.

In 1930 the church was altered to include a pastor’s office, choir loft, kitchen, and a few classrooms that were finished in 1931.  In 1935, the name Portuguese Evangelical Church was changed to Central Christian Church, and then in 2023 it was renamed House of Glory.

Culturally, we have a diverse congregation who worship together and have become a family who enjoy gathering together for fellowship which includes worship, bible study, house churches, get-togethers, and retreats.

If you are looking for a place to worship where the Holy Spirit has liberty to move in our midst, we would like to invite you to come join us.
